Kids Martial Arts

Q: “Will martial arts, karate, tae kwon do make my kid violent?”

No way! In fact, martial arts makes kids calmer and more respectful than ever. Martial arts always has been about peace, and it always will be.

Q: “Can my child get injured with martial arts, karate, tae kwon do?”

As a parent, I'm sure you've seen that kids can get injured doing just about anything. Martial arts is no different, however we take safety very seriously here. Yes, injuries do sometimes happen. But we do everything in our power to avoid them. We do special exercises and stretches to make your child's body limber and flexible. And we're ALWAYS keeping a very close eye on everything going on.

Q: “Can my child do martial arts, karate, tae kwon do if he/she is not the athletic type?”

Yes! In fact, martial arts is often a “home” for kids who don't excel at team sports. Kids who have trouble in baseball, basketball, etc. often come to martial arts and do extremely well. And it's okay if your child is not athletic right now. Through our classes, they'll get in great shape and become very athletic.

Q: “Are these martial arts, karate, tae kwon classes fun?”

Yes! After all, these are children we're dealing with here. And kids love their fun. We do a variety of games and activities that have kids balling with laughter, and constantly smiling. We work hard here - but we play just as hard.

Q: “Will martial arts, karate, tae kwon improve my child's confidence?”

Yes! Martial arts is a powerful source of confidence for kids. They practice hard and learn techniques in order to advance through the ranks. And as they advance, they fill with pride. After all, they're the ones doing all the work - so they feel all of the accomplishment whenever they learn a new move... achieve a new belt... or get praise from their fellow students and instructors.

Mixed Martial Arts

Q: “Should I get in shape before joining?”

Come in whatever shape you're currently in. If you're already in awesome shape - we'll get you in even better shape. If you're fitness level isn't so hot right now, no worries. Before you know it you'll be athletic, toned, and stronger than ever.

Q: “Can I get injured in your program?”

Every sport comes with risk for injury. What separates our program from other forms of exercise is you're under the constant supervision of trained professionals. We're there to watch you, guide you, and keep you safe. Injuries happen from time to time - but they're very rare in our Festus MMA program.

Q: “Is MMA training violent like on TV?”

Our training program is very NON-violent. You're not showing up to some gym full of bullies who just want to hurt you! This is a fun, laid-back environment. Everyone just wants to train, get in great shape, and have fun. We're a team here. Everyone supports one another.

Q: “What ages are most of your members?”

Our MMA training members fall within a very wide age range. In truth, our training is fun & challenging, and gets people in shape of all ages. However, most of our members range from mid 20s to late 40s.

Savate-Thai Kickboxing

Q: “Should I get in shape before signing up?”

Any! Our classes help people who aren't in shape, get in shape. And they help people who are in shape get in even greater shape, fast.

Q: “Will my past injury / medical condition interfere with classes?”

Contact your doctor, and see what he/she says. If your doctor has any questions for us, let us know and we'll gladly answer them!

Q: “Savate-Thai Kickboxing seems very intense. Do people get injured a lot?”

Savate-Thai Kickboxing IS intense. That's what's so awesome about it ;-). However, people do NOT get injured a lot. We've created a supportive, safe environment here.

Q: “What experience levels are these classes for? Beginners? Advanced? Etc.?”

All of the above. Our classes are designed for people of all Savate-Thai Kickboxing experience levels to get an awesome experience. Whether you're a beginner or a seasoned vet - you'll get what you're looking for.

Q: “I'm NOT a competitive fighter. Are these classes right for me?”

Absolutely. Many people take our Savate-Thai Kickboxing classes as a way to get in shape. Others want to learn an awesome martial art. Some just want to get an adrenaline rush. But you don't have to compete to fit in here.

Krav Maga

Q: “What kind of physical shape do I need to be in?”

Any! We have Krav Maga students who are in great shape, and others who aren't. Everyone has a great experience, and learns a ton in every class. Those who start out in not-so-great shape often get in shape very quickly. So if this is you, have no fear! Just come and enjoy Krav Maga.

Q: “Can I participate in these Krav Maga classes if I have a medical condition?”

If you have a medical condition, or past / present injury, we advise speaking to your doctor before starting our Festus Krav Maga classes.

The good news is you can adjust your pace to match your physical ability. If you have to go a bit slower than the rest of the class, that's just fine. And no one will judge you. You'll have tremendous support.

Q: “What's the risk for injury with these classes?”

Very low, we're proud to say. We take extreme pre-cautions with our program to insure that you stay safe and sound. As with any form of physical activity, Krav Maga comes with a risk for injury. However, because of the lengths we go to teach Krav Maga safely - injuries are very rare here.

Q: “What kind of atmosphere are these classes? (fun? serious? etc.?)”

Every one of our Krav Maga classes goes through a range of atmospheres. At times, it's highly focused and serious. At other times it's goofy and fun. We try to create a good mixture of both so you learn a lot while having fun.

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu

Q: “Should I get in shape before signing up?”

No way! If you're not already in shape, our classes are the fastest, funnest way to get there. Guaranteed.

Q: “Can I still take Brazilian Jiu Jitsu classes if I have a medical condition / past serious injury?”

Most people with medical conditions and past injuries can take BJJ without a hitch. However, we recommend speaking to your doctor first. He / she will know best. We're also glad to work around your condition / injury in accordance with your doctor's advice. Just let us know what your doctor says!

Q: “Do people get injured a lot in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu?”

Not at all! You'll be training in an extremely supportive, safe environment. No one wants to hurt anyone - and no one wants to get hurt. While injuries happen from time to time (just like with any sport), they're the exception - not the rule.

Q: “Are there women in the classes?”

Yes! While the majority of our BJJ students are men, there are women who come and have an awesome experience, too.

Q: “What's the class-environment like here?”

In a nutshell: supportive, fun & focused. BJJ tends to have a “family-like” vibe. After all, you're constantly challenging yourself, and striving to be your best in every class. This creates a real sense of camaraderie & team - which is part of the awesome BJJ experience.
